Early on the morning of the 31st, I awoke to the sound of Livvie wretching in the corner. As I'm screaming at the Flyer, "Get her out! Get her out!" he's yelling back, "I can't see!" since it was early morning after all. Kind of fitting that I should wake up on the final day of 2008 to the sound of panic and cleaning up someone else's mess . . . if that isn't a fitting metaphor, then I don't know what else is. Anyone else looking forward to a new year? Right-o . . . resolution time . . . just after my month inspired mosaic by much better photographers. Perhaps that should be my resolution.
We haven't been real "resolutiony" in the past so much so that I couldn't even find a post that had resolutions in it but change is a coming, my friends, in the form a new decade for me as well as an empty nest. Lola, I fear, will have a very mobile dare-devil on her hands in about three weeks. She might have the worse end of the bargain. Anyhow, here are the resolutions, with Lola's three first.
- Knit more sweaters that are wearable! Amanda is a keeper. But the Tilted Duster? Demi? Nope. TD might have looked good while I was pregnant, but now it looks awful & the yarn pills. Demi is a beautiful sweater (didn't look too bad before the 2nd baby), but it's too short and always has been. . I pawned it off on my Mom. I used a heathered brown 220 Cascade that I love so much. I may use it again for another cable sweater.
- Use from my stash. Isn't this every knitter's dream? Use up the small sweater and sock yarn stash I have and find other projects for the odd balls . . . suggestions?
- Knit something for SK. He has asked for a knitted monkey for years, but I can't bring myself to knit a grown man a stuffed animal. I'd love to knit him a sweater, but I've never met a more picky individual. The hem would be too long & the sleeves won't hit at the right area. I know that he'd be polite, but it would sit in his closet and I would resent it. Maybe I'll try something top-down.
- Finish two of the three afghans that I have going. Ideally, it would be all three but considering that I promised the girls each one, I have a target date of mid-August when they head off to which ever college makes their cut (Pitt, Temple, or Penn State) since the girls made the colleges' cuts.
- Knit at least two sweaters from the stash. Lola called me out on it earlier and she was right . . . I have sweater quantity stash multiple times over. Personally, I'd love to give Arianne another whirl in the Summit Hill Chocolate that I have and knitting the layering sweater in the Claudia Handpaint would be quite an accomplishment since, you know, it's on 2s, I think.
- Find something else to knit with sock yarn other than socks. Sure, I love knitting them but I don't like wearing socks. Even now, with the bitterly cold weather, I don't have socks on. And let's just refer to numbers 2 and 5 with regards to the stash. Socks? I could easily knit a new pair every month . . . but I don't really want 12 pair of socks.
So, there you have it. I'm not sure how honest we'll be with the resolutions or if we'll even follow them. I do know that I am about two inches away from the bottom of my sweater and 150 pages from the end of New Moon. That, unfortunately, makes for a very sticky decision . . . the sweater or the trashy novel.
Happy New Year (and birthday)!
Love,
Ava and Lola
