ETA at 11:06 PM EST: I thought of a song title as soon as I read the post, but the uber superstitious part of me came out. Beyond happiness and waiting for the Bro's drunken call. - Ava
We haven't moved our music to the new iMac & I'm clueless for a song title. Sorry, Ava.
I think that everyone in the country knows that today is the Day! While taking the kids to daycare, we passed several polling locations. I tried to explain to Gus what it means to vote. It isn't the easiest concept for a 3.5 year old to understand. I thought this explanation may work: Imagine if you could only do 2 things all day; puzzles or coloring. Your teacher would make everyone sit in a circle & raise their hands for either coloring or puzzles. Which ever activity had more hands, that's what wins & what you'd do all day. Do you understand? He said, "Yes. There's a winner at the end of Voting Day." I decided to skip trying to explain that there may not be a winner. Then the questions came! Gus asked what I was going to vote for, "Coloring or puzzles?" He asked on President's Day if Obama was going to stand up. I'm not sure where that question came from or if he even knows about President's Day. He asked when he was going to vote. Another hard concept for a toddler? Age. 18 buddy! So please go vote for Gus, he's got a couple years. It makes me very excited to see him trying to understand this day.
I'd share better photos of my current project, but it's kind of boring. My plan was to make the Runaround Raglan Cardigan for Gus. I had to buy more of Kraemer's Summit Hill. When I made the cake, I really thought that the yarn had a different feel. Kraemer's used to sell Summit Hill in a skein. A while back, they decided that people liked their yarn in hanks. Ava says that they didn't change the yarn content, but I disagree. Tuck's Summit Hill yarn felt more like cotton. Gus' feels like merino. I would not have been able to get gauge with this yarn. Instead of trying to make it work or choosing a different yarn, I decided to change the pattern. I picked of Knitting from the Top & went to work.
I decided to stick with the raglan cardigan idea. Once I made the swatch, it was very easy. I have about 4 more inches until I begin the bottom band. I love trying new things with kid sweaters. Tuck's was the first top down. Gus' first Christmas sweater was my first seamless. The itty-bittyness of them are perfect for new skills. Since I've got one top-down on my list, what's new for Gus'? I'm thinking about adding a pocket to Gus' cardigan. That can't be hard. I also took the easy path & skipped the button-band. I opted for a zipper. How Mr. Rogers? A zipper & pocket? I've got to find him some slip-ons & a trolley.
Go vote!

PS We've been given an award! Thanks, Sarah! Ava & I will submit our bloggy love real soon. Once CNN puts their magical moving map away, we can get back to real life.
PPS - Ahh, to be in 7th grade again . . . Ava here, wishing our Bro a happy birthday (not like he'll ever see it). Nothing would make him happier than a little victory courtesy of Mr. Obama . . . considering he works for the campaign and all.
ahh that magic map - it sucks you in no? i think i will be glued to cnn all day with the exception of the hour long stewart/colbert gig this evening.

Puzzles or coloring? A much tougher choice than the main choice in this election!
