Ahh, knitting . . . my refuge from work, stress, the news, fill-in-the-blank. Not a cheery news week, especially with the prospect of putting two kids through college. But knitting? Smooth, repetitive stitches going round and round does wonders for anyone.
Lola finally got power back last night around 8 PM. How she did it for that long is beyond me. Luckily for her and the boys, they had gas for hot water and the stove so showers, baths, and anything on the burners worked. Still, it kind of got to me when she persuaded Gus to go to daycare so he could have "cold milk and a hot meal." Unfortunately for you all, you're stuck with me for the time being since they don't have cable, which translates to no Internet. Edit: Ummm, she lost power again today at 4:30 PM. Apparently, it's going to be a long time and this has been happening around Columbus all week.
No real photographs of knits to show (that's why you're getting a Flickr mosaic). Honestly, do you really want to look at Cobblestone with its mile after mile of smooth, repetitive stitches? Soothes the soul, but doesn't really paint a pretty picture. I just finished the first decrease in the yoke, so the end is in sight, which is great given that it's a birthday present and that birthday is a mere five days away. Send all positive thoughts this way.

I finished a class yesterday for the Lizard Ridge blanket at Mountain Knits and Pearls. What an enjoyable class, knitting with friends I've made simply by sharing one common interest. If you don't have an LYS or a knitting group, my sympathies. Granted, knitting is a craft you can perform independently and the advent of sites like Ravelry certainly adds to the camaraderie, but nothing beats sitting with live people from all walks of life who are willing to help with a problem, listen to your dumb stories, or ooh and ahh over something that probably doesn't even deserve it.
So, there you go . . . boring post #1 from Ava while you all wait for Lola to get her cable back.

PS - Veronica is knitting her boyfriend a hat. She is my hat fiend and usually creates her own patterns. I came home the other day to find knitting hieroglyphics for the boyfriend hat scrawled on a legal pad. You got to love a girl who wings the pattern and comes up with a winner almost every time.
i love my LYS knit night. i go every week and always have a ball. i don't care what anyone says, knitters are really freakin' funny. it's as good as therapy, especially when someone brings wine!
looking forward to hearing about lola's adventure and seeing your cobblestone.

I don't have an LYS. Instead I have lots of friends in the dorm who knit with me! I love bringing it down, answering questions, talking about knitting and gossiping about different people in the dorm. It's exciting!
And on the Ball State front: We beat a Big 10 school! Whoo! We beat IU for the first time EVER! The only problem is we lost a player to injury. Dante Love (3rd or something player in the nation for something...I dunno) got tackled and it was head on head collision and he suffered a spinal fracture and endured 5 hours of surgery but is recovering nicely. Unfortunately he's out for the rest of the season. Good news for you guys when we play Miami! But on the other hand right now we are 4-0! We might win all 10 games this year! Okay I'm done talking about my team now!

Ravelry *is* my LYS - we don't have one nearby at all, so that particular online group is my go-to place when I'm flummoxed by a pattern or when I have a question.
I'm big into hats at the moment as well - such lovely transition knits! 'Thorpe' (linked the just the other day by B'tweed) is my latest jumping-off point - I start with the Thorpe basics and then throw in lots of wacky things to make it unique.
