All Day and All Night

We're busy getting our Fall started the only way we know how: Camping!  SK is obsessed with making Play Lists.  I'm nutty about finding campfire knits.  I never like to take something that will suck in the campfire smell.  This rules out big projects that I won't finish within two weeks after the tent has been stored.  I usually bring socks, but  I wanted something else this year.  When the Girls were visiting, I picked up Hat Heads.  This has been the first knit book that has gotten me really excited!  I can't remember the last time I bought a knit book.  I've been bored by recent pages.  I'm not sure what this book did to excite me.  It's full of simple beanie styled hats.  How difficult is that?  But I like the concept of knitting for friends.  Hats are a quick knit & there's nothing better for an uninterested Knitter.  So I promised the Girls hats.

I'm using Rowan Felted Tweed for both hats.  And true to form, this hat is completed!  Charted knits fly off my needles.  Watching the pattern form keeps me knitting when I should be sleeping.  I need to stop at the yarn store & grab another ball for the second hat.  With the second hat, I'm going to knit a little longer hat.  If that looks & fits better, I'll rip out this one and add some length.

Poker Face

This is a "clean" snapshot of what our kitchen looks like.  Right now, this picture would be littered with sippy cups, baby spoons, half eaten sleeves of crackers, random utensils.  It's a version of hell for me.  I think that you should eat at a table & we don't have a functioning table.  Gus has been having picnics for the past week and Tuck is smashed between kitchen junk and a wall.  Last Sunday, SK declared "I'm painting the cabinets this week."  Not a good week, honey.  I was out of town, he had a work proposal, and we had family coming to town on the weekend.  But he trucked on.  One coat of primer is where we're at.

It was especially heartbreaking because last week I devoured (sorry for the pun) A Homemade Life.  I haven't finished a book in two days since I've had children.  Life before children & the book would have been mine in a day.  When I finished the book, all I wanted to do was whip up anything from the book.  This is nearly impossible when it takes you 15 minutes to find the can-opener.  Don't even ask how long it took me to find a teaspoon.  I used to read Orangette, but for some reason quit.  I'm back in a huge way.  This book made you fall in love with your kitchen & the food of your past.  I'm pretty sure that a Two Black Sheep food memoir book could never be as pretty.  How do you write a moving chapter about a dish affectionately called Dog Food?  I think it was ground beef, onions, mushroom soup, & potatoes.  Covered in ketcup, of course.  If you love food, please rush out & read this book.

One more repeat on Cleite & she's getting blocked.  There will be a long & nasty post about this project.  Promise.
